Strong Earthquake Shakes Northern Iran as Conflict with Israel Escalates
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit northern Iran, according to the US Geological Survey. At the same time, Israel was carrying out several airstrikes on different parts of the country.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that the earthquake was a bit stronger, at 5.2 magnitude. The quake happened 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep underground, and the center of the earthquake was about 37 kilometers (23 miles) southwest of the city of Semnan.
